GGS Supporting the Modernization of Island Water Infrastructure

Glenmount Global Solutions (GGS) was featured in an article in “Building Industry” Kauai, discussing the state of the island’s infrastructure and the current projects ongoing targeted at modernizing improving water services.
GGS was awarded a $5+ million dollar project in 2014 to provide design, construction, and technical supervision services to provide modernize Control and Automation and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for four of the island’s wastewater treatment facilities. Each facility, currently operating separately, will be integrated into a single system and central control room.
According to Tom Nelson, GGS’s Executive Vice President and General Manager of the West Region: “One integrated SCADA system will reduce the cost of maintenance, reduce the chance of a sewage spill, as well as provide the regulatory reporting required by state and federal agencies….”.

The water district is one of the more complex in the region. The island, while stunningly beautiful, also poses challenges to the design and construction of SCADA systems, with drastic changes in topography and significant environmental considerations that must be taken into account.
